The Last Innovative Decade

Sometimes we may forget that floppy disks were used to store and transfer data. It is laughable to even think about how mobile phones used to operate and look. Here is a list of innovations of the last decade

1. Toyota introduces the hybrid (2000). Prius was a pioneer in the hybrid vehicle market. Its introduction saw environmentalists beam with joy due to its fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness. Since its introduction the hybrid market share grew through leaps and bounds making Toyota a leader in the hybrid market.
2. Text messaging (1992). The first text messaging service was introduced in 1992 via the Short Messaging Service Center SMSC. In 1992 the SMSC version 1.0 had a capacity of 10 messages per second. By 1999 the first high performance SMSC was launched by Acision with a capacity of 500 messages per second. Despite the evolution of the mobile industry the SMS remains the most popular service today.
3. Social Networking (2003 onwards). This whole business of making friends, status updates and following may not have been in many peoples mind in 1999. Thanks to Facebook, MySpace and twitter all that is part of our online culture.
4. Web 2.0 revolution (2001 onwards). When Wikipedia was launched, it started a chain reaction of websites allocating space for user generated content. This i prefer to call web 2.0 revolution as they were the second generation of websites unlike yahoos and AOLs.
5. The Google search engine. Nobody really comprehends how Google search results bring you exactly what you were looking for. Campus students should really make a point buying a gift for Sergey and Larry. Google was and still is the best search engine online. it brought order to internet as search results are not only found but ranked according to relevance.
6. Introduction of iPhone (2007). Maybe you are using an iPhone to view this page well you have Steve Jobs and Apple to thank for that. The iPhone was the first full touch screen without a keypad. The introduction of iPhone also led to development of thousands of apps that are as revolutionary as the iPhone.

Last week, I received a call from an account manager(Frank Rodgers)an employee of one of the leading online Academic Writers company; Essay Writers. He contacted me to create an account with them as a technical expert. I never applied for this job but my internet ‘presence’ was already marketing me. Creating a blog is so beneficial at times.

The next thing to do is to search for nice sites that pay freelancers well. There is so many reviews out there that describe good freelancing websites.

There was a farmer in Africa who was happy and content. He was happy because he was content. He was content because he was happy.One day a wise man came to him and told him about the glory of diamonds and

the power that goes along with them. The wise man said, “If you had a diamond the size of your thumb, you could have your own city. If you had a diamond the size of your fist, you could probably own your own country.” And then he went away.

That night the farmer couldn’t sleep. He was unhappy and he was discontent. He was unhappy because he was discontent and discontent because he was unhappy. The next morning h
e made arrangements to sell off his
farm, took care of his family and went in search of diamonds.

He looked all over Africa and couldn’t find any. He looked all through Europe and couldn’t find any. When he got to Spain, he was emotionally, physically and financially broke. He got so disheartened that he threw himself into the Barcelona River and committed suicide.

Back home, the person who had bought his farm was watering the camels at a stream that ran through the farm.
Across the stream, the rays of the morning sun hit a stone and made it sparkle like a rainbow. He thought it would look good on the mantle piece. He picked up the stone and put it in the living room. That afternoon the wise man came and saw the stone sparkling. He asked, “Is Hafiz back?” The new owner said, “No, why do you ask?” The wise man said, “Because that is a diamond. I recognize one when I see one.”

The man said, no, that’s just a stone I picked up from the stream. Come, I’ll show you. There are many more.” They went and picked some samples and sent them for analysis. Sure enough, the stones were diamonds. They found that the farm was indeed covered with acres and acres of diamonds.
What is the moral of this story? There are five morals:

1. When our attitude is right, we realize that we are all walking on acres and acres of diamonds. Opportunity is always under our feet. We don’t have to go anywhere. All we need to do is recognize it.

2. The grass on the other side always looks greener.

3. While we are dyeing the grass on the other side, there are others who are dyeing the grass on our side. They would be happy to trade places with us.

4. When people don’t know how to recognize opportunity, they complain of noise when it knocks.

5. The same opportunity never knocks twice. The next one may be better or worse, but it is never the same one.

How To Improve your coding skills

Many people say coding is a hard nut to crack, but I beg to differ with anyone who stands tall with this notion. Am opposed to this argument with the following proved facts at hand.

• Attitude:  Attitude is the driving factor in every undertaking. With the right attitude, coding should become as easy as elementary school maths.
• Go Simple: It is widely acceptable that simple projects are easy to undertake and finish. While coding it is nice to use effectively the technique of divide and conquer. Split your large program into simple small codes.
• Algorithm: Stepwise approach to solving problems is the key factor inspiring arriving at correct solutions. Before writing any program, you are highly advised to come up with an algorithm that will make your work easy and understood.
• Copy paste Less: Train yourself to rewrite codes written by other people instead of copy pasting the whole code. This way you will learn new techniques and understand the code better.
• Comment: The secret to understand the flow of your code is to comment. This becomes important since it assists in debugging and code understandability by other users.
• Practice: coding is like doing maths. It needs constant practice. The more you give your coding time, the more you familiarize yourself with syntax and semantics of the programming language.
• Research: If you learn one programming language, research on new  developments about the language. Learn other programming languages.

Remember good programming is not about coding alone. If you want to go all the way to become a real guru, software development and project management skills as well as communication skills are vital.
